Kawaki’s battle with Garō is one of the most important moments in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations because it gives viewers their first real look at what his Kāma can do. Before the fight, Kawaki is already a dangerous fighter because his body has been extensively modified by Kara. However, his encounter with Garō reveals that the Kāma gives him abilities far beyond ordinary physical strength. The battle also establishes the connection between Kawaki and Boruto, as their Kāma marks resonate when they are near each other.
The fight ends quickly once Kawaki fully activates the Kāma. He can absorb attacks, reshape his body, and channel destructive power through his modified arm. His victory over Garō also shows why Kara considered Kawaki such a valuable vessel.
How Kawaki’s Kāma Powers Work During the Garō Fight
Garō is sent by Kara to retrieve Kawaki after the latter escapes from the organization. Although Kawaki is already exhausted from fighting, Garō overwhelms him and uses his scientific ninja tool to pierce his body. Just as Garō prepares to finish him, Boruto’s Kāma activates, followed by Kawaki’s own mark.
Kawaki’s Kāma immediately changes the battle. He uses its absorption ability to neutralize Garō’s attacks, similar to how Boruto previously absorbed ninjutsu. The mark spreads across his body, while Kawaki’s modified arm becomes an even more dangerous weapon.
Kawaki then reshapes his arm and extends it through Garō’s body. He follows this with a massive blast generated through his Kāma, completely destroying Garō and creating a huge crater around the battlefield. Boruto instinctively uses his own Kāma to absorb part of the resulting explosion and protect Team 7.
The fight also demonstrates the major weakness of Kawaki’s Kāma at this stage. After releasing so much power, his body begins overheating and he loses consciousness. This makes it clear that Kawaki cannot yet use the full potential of the Kāma without suffering severe physical consequences.
Most importantly, the Garō battle establishes that Kawaki and Boruto’s Kāma marks can resonate with each other. That connection becomes central to their relationship throughout Boruto, eventually tying their fates together through the Ōtsutsuki power they both carry.
