Super Saiyan 4 and Super Saiyan Blue represent two very different paths to Saiyan power in the Dragon Ball franchise. Introduced in Dragon Ball GT, Super Saiyan 4 draws on Saiyan primal instincts and Great Ape power, giving Goku and Vegeta a distinctive appearance with red fur and dark hair. Super Saiyan Blue, introduced in Dragon Ball Super, combines Super Saiyan transformation with the divine ki associated with Super Saiyan God.

The two forms finally shared the spotlight in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, where the series featured Goku from the main Dragon Ball Super timeline fighting Xeno Goku, a version of the hero associated with the Dragon Ball Xenoverse universe. Their confrontation gave fans a rare chance to compare the transformations directly. However, the encounter did not settle the debate, since the battle was interrupted before either fighter could establish a conclusive victory.

Super Saiyan 4 emphasizes a Saiyan’s primal heritage. In Dragon Ball GT, Goku reaches the form after regaining control of his Golden Great Ape power, while Vegeta achieves it with help from Bulma’s Blutz Wave technology. The transformation provides an enormous boost in strength and speed while allowing its users to retain a humanoid form. Its design and connection to Saiyan biology make it distinct from the transformations introduced in Dragon Ball Super.

Super Saiyan Blue follows a different route. Goku and Vegeta achieve the form after training to use godly ki and then combining that power with the Super Saiyan transformation. Blue emphasizes controlled energy and powerful attacks, making it a major step beyond Super Saiyan God. Its role in battles against divine and exceptionally powerful opponents establishes it as one of the central transformations in Dragon Ball Super.

In the first episode of Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Super Saiyan Blue Goku fights Xeno Goku after the latter transforms into Super Saiyan 4. Their clash showcases the visual and combat differences between the forms, but the encounter ends without a clear winner because the larger crisis takes priority. The promotional series therefore does not establish a universal ranking that proves one transformation is always stronger.

The key distinction is that Super Saiyan 4 belongs to the Dragon Ball GT and expanded Heroes continuity, while Super Saiyan Blue comes from the main Dragon Ball Super storyline. Since Super Dragon Ball Heroes is a promotional spin-off with its own continuity and power scaling, its battles should not be treated as definitive evidence for the main series. The fairest conclusion is that both forms are extremely powerful, but their exact ranking depends on the version of the characters and the continuity being compared.
