The Eye of the Midnight Sun is one of the major enemy groups in Black Clover, first appearing as a mysterious organization determined to destroy the Clover Kingdom. Led by a figure claiming to be Licht, the group repeatedly attacked important locations while searching for powerful magic stones. Its members appeared to share a hatred of humans, particularly the Clover Kingdom, and believed they were fighting to restore the elven race.
The group’s real objective becomes clear during the Elf Reincarnation arc. Patolli, an elf who had taken Licht’s identity, was gathering the magic stones needed to activate the reincarnation ritual and revive the elves. However, Patolli had been manipulated by the devil Zagred, who was ultimately responsible for the tragedy that destroyed the elves 500 years earlier.
The Eye of the Midnight Sun’s Plan and Powers Explained

Patolli created the Eye of the Midnight Sun after being reincarnated inside William Vangeance’s body. He revived three powerful elves, Rhya, Vetto and Fana, and recruited human mages to help gather the magic stones. The human members believed they would eventually be transformed into their “true forms,” but Patolli was actually using them as sacrifices for the reincarnation spell.
The magic stones were central to the entire plan because they could amplify magical power and were required to activate the Tree of Life monument. The Eye of the Midnight Sun launched attacks across the Clover Kingdom to obtain them, including operations involving the Royal Capital, Seabed Temple and Witches’ Forest. Once the ritual was activated, elf souls began taking over the bodies of people connected to the ancient tribe.
The group’s strongest fighters were known as the Third Eye. Rhya possessed Copy Magic, allowing him to reproduce other magic attributes, while Vetto used Beast Magic to enhance his physical abilities. Fana combined Fire Magic with the enormous power of the fire spirit Salamander, making the three powerful enough to challenge Magic Knight captains.
Patolli himself was particularly dangerous because of his Light Magic. His spells allowed him to move at extraordinary speeds and create weapons and attacks from light, while his Reincarnation Magic could restore elf souls inside human hosts. His powers eventually placed him in direct conflict with Julius Novachrono, although the truth about the elves and Zagred’s manipulation ultimately changed the direction of the conflict.
