Makoto Shinkai’s beloved anime film Your Name. is returning to the big screen as GKIDS celebrates the movie’s 10th anniversary with a 4K remastered theatrical screening in North America on August 14.
The distributor has also released a new trailer showcasing the enhanced presentation of one of the highest-grossing anime films of all time.
Your Name. returns in 4K for its 10th anniversary
GKIDS confirmed that fans will be able to experience the visually stunning romance in a newly remastered 4K format nearly a decade after its original Japanese debut in August 2016.
According to GKIDS, the film follows:
“One morning, rural schoolgirl Mitsuha and city kid Taki awaken to discover that they’ve switched bodies.”
The distributor describes the film as an emotional story of destiny, adding that Makoto Shinkai’s breathtaking visuals and RADWIMPS’ acclaimed soundtrack helped establish Your Name as a modern animation classic.
The anniversary celebration will continue with a 4K UHD Steelbook and Blu-ray release scheduled for August 25.
Produced by CoMix Wave Films and distributed in Japan by Toho, Your Name. became a worldwide success after its 2016 release. The film ranks among Japan’s highest-grossing movies of all time and remains one of the country’s most successful anime features, earning strong box office results across Asia and internationally.
Meanwhile, the planned Hollywood live-action adaptation remains in development. Variety previously reported that Carlos López Estrada is attached to direct and rewrite the project after replacing Lee Isaac Chung, while Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions continue producing the adaptation alongside original producer Genki Kawamura.
