The voice cast of Tokyo Revengers has opened up about how years of performing the series’ central characters have changed their understanding of Takemichi, Mikey and Draken. In an interview following the series’ appearance at Anime Expo 2026, Yūki Shin, Yuu Hayashi and Masaya Fukunishi discussed the personalities behind the three major characters and what viewers can expect from the anime’s latest storyline.

The interview arrives as Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc begins its television run in October 2026. The three actors previously appeared together at Anime Expo 2026 for a special cast panel and recap event. Anime Expo’s official schedule confirmed Shin, Hayashi and Fukunishi as the featured guests for the panel, which focused on the new arc and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Among the most notable comments came from Hayashi, who teased a significantly darker version of Mikey as the story moves forward.

Yuu Hayashi Teases a Darker Mikey

Hayashi explained that one of the biggest surprises of playing Mikey has been discovering how far the character’s darker personality can develop.

“At first, he was such a reliable leader,”

Hayashi said in the interview.

“But if you see the trailer for the next season, we think you’re going to see a very surprising, darker Mikey.”

According to Hayashi, Mikey’s earlier darkness was accompanied by uncertainty and hesitation. The new version of the character, however, could be considerably more dangerous because he may no longer question that side of himself.

Hayashi also explained that Mikey’s different personalities are not something he deliberately tries to balance. Instead, the actor approaches each side with complete intensity, whether Mikey is being childish, charismatic or threatening.

The voice actor believes Mikey is fundamentally kind despite his increasingly dangerous behavior. That contradiction is part of what makes the character difficult to perform and helps explain why audiences remain fascinated by him.

The new War of the Three Titans Arc follows the escalating conflict between major factions after the dissolution of the Tokyo Manji Gang. The official production announcement confirmed that the arc began airing in October 2026 and introduced characters connected to the Three Titans conflict.

Yūki Shin Says Takemichi’s Biggest Growth Is Psychological

Shin described Takemichi’s development differently. Rather than becoming dramatically stronger physically, Takemichi has gradually developed greater psychological resilience.

“When the story goes along, he does get stronger, but it’s not really physical strength,”

Shin explained.

“I was surprised at how psychologically stronger he became.”

The actor believes Takemichi’s vulnerability is one of the reasons audiences connect with him. Unlike characters who earn trust through overwhelming ability, Takemichi repeatedly proves himself by refusing to give up.

Shin said Takemichi has spent much of his life running away from difficult situations, making his decision to confront them especially meaningful. That persistence allows other characters and viewers to see themselves in him.

The official Tokyo Revengers cast listing identifies Shin as Takemichi, Hayashi as Mikey and Fukunishi as Draken.

Masaya Fukunishi Explains What Makes Draken Different

Fukunishi said his understanding of Draken has also changed over time. He initially focused on emphasizing the character’s physical strength and imposing voice, but years of performing the role have helped him discover another side of Draken.

The actor now places greater emphasis on portraying Draken’s relaxed confidence. Fukunishi explained that someone can appear especially cool when they are completely at ease, and his experience with the character has helped him express that quality more naturally.

He also described Draken as someone who understands that people move through different stages of life. His appreciation for lasting friendships gives him a maturity that distinguishes him from many of the other characters.

That perspective also affects how Draken interacts with others. Fukunishi said the character does not necessarily try to change people, instead adapting his approach depending on who he is dealing with.

With Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc now underway, the cast’s comments suggest that the latest storyline will place even greater emphasis on the contrasting personalities and relationships that drive the series.
