Historia Reiss’ decision to reject her father, Rod Reiss, is one of the defining moments of her character arc in Attack on Titan. For years, Historia had lived under the identity of Krista Lenz, believing that being kind, self-sacrificing, and useful to others was the only way to give her life meaning. Her royal heritage changes everything when Rod reveals that she is a member of the Reiss family and the last surviving person capable of inheriting its royal power.

At first, Historia considers accepting her father’s plan because she believes becoming the Founding Titan could allow her to save humanity and reunite with her deceased sister, Frieda. However, she eventually realizes that Rod is manipulating her for the family’s benefit. Remembering Ymir’s advice to live proudly as herself, Historia chooses her own path instead. That decision leads directly to her becoming Queen of the Walls.

Why Historia Rejected Rod Reiss and Chose to Become Queen

Rod wants Historia to inject herself with Titan serum, transform into a Pure Titan, and eat Eren Yeager to reclaim the Founding Titan for the Reiss family. Historia initially considers the proposal because Rod presents it as her opportunity to save humanity and restore what was lost. However, the truth about the Reiss family’s previous inheritors makes her question whether gaining the Founding Titan would actually allow her to change anything.

Historia learns that the previous royal holders of the Founding Titan were influenced by the ideology of the First King. Even Frieda, whom Historia remembered as a loving sister, eventually became unable to oppose that inherited will. Historia therefore understands that Rod is not asking her to become a hero but attempting to restore the power and authority of the Reiss family.

The memory of Ymir becomes crucial at this point. Ymir had encouraged Historia to stop living as someone else and embrace her real personality, and those words give her the courage to reject Rod’s expectations. Historia smashes the Titan injection, frees Eren, and refuses to become another vessel for the Reiss family’s legacy.

Rod subsequently transforms himself into a gigantic Pure Titan and heads toward Orvud District. During the battle, Historia joins the Survey Corps and delivers the final blow against her father’s Titan, publicly declaring herself the true ruler of the Walls. She is subsequently crowned queen, marking the culmination of her transformation from the false “Krista Lenz” into Historia Reiss, a ruler who chooses her own identity and decisions.
