Boruto Uzumaki learns the Rasengan from Konohamaru Sarutobi while preparing for the Chūnin Exams. Unlike Naruto, Boruto has an unusual natural talent for ninjutsu and manages to learn the basic technique surprisingly quickly. However, his first Rasengan is smaller than the standard version because he unconsciously uses less chakra than necessary. This does not make the technique useless, as Boruto’s precision allows him to control it efficiently. His training eventually leads to the creation of the Vanishing Rasengan, a unique version that incorporates his natural Lightning Release without him initially realizing it. This improvement becomes one of Boruto’s defining techniques and later plays a crucial role against Momoshiki.

Boruto’s Rasengan development also reflects his relationship with Naruto. At first, he wants the technique partly to prove that he can become a powerful shinobi without depending on his father. Over time, however, Boruto begins to understand the skill and effort behind Naruto’s achievements, especially after using the Rasengan alongside him during the battle against Momoshiki.

Boruto begins learning the Rasengan from Konohamaru after deciding that he needs a powerful technique before the Chūnin Exams. He progresses quickly through the basic stages because of his exceptional chakra control. His version initially appears smaller than a normal Rasengan, but Boruto discovers that he can use the reduced size without sacrificing its effectiveness.

The biggest evolution happens when Boruto unknowingly adds Lightning Release to the technique. Once thrown, the chakra sphere becomes difficult to see and continues moving toward its target before suddenly disappearing. This Vanishing Rasengan gives Boruto an unexpected advantage because opponents cannot easily track the attack after it leaves his hand.

Boruto first demonstrates the technique’s importance during the battle against Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki. The Vanishing Rasengan catches Momoshiki off guard because he cannot properly anticipate the invisible attack. This allows Boruto to contribute to the battle against an opponent who vastly outclasses most of the young shinobi.

Boruto later continues improving his Rasengan rather than treating the Vanishing Rasengan as his final form. After suffering a defeat against Deepa, he seeks additional training and works with Kakashi to increase the power of his technique. This training helps Boruto develop greater control and produce a much stronger Rasengan.

His growth eventually continues into Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, where he develops Rasengan: Uzuhiko. Unlike his earlier versions, this technique incorporates the planet’s rotation and represents a major evolution of the Rasengan concept. Boruto’s journey therefore takes him from quickly learning a famous jutsu to creating variations that reflect his own abilities and fighting style.
