Kashin Koji’s connection to Jiraiya is one of the biggest revelations in Boruto. For much of the story, Koji appears to be a mysterious member of Kara who happens to share several traits with the legendary Sannin. He can summon toads, use the Rasengan, enter Sage Mode, and fight with techniques strongly associated with Jiraiya. The similarities initially made his identity a major mystery, but the truth is even stranger than Jiraiya simply surviving. Koji is an artificial clone created from Jiraiya’s genetic material, giving him a direct biological connection to one of Naruto’s most important mentors.
Koji, however, is not Jiraiya resurrected. He has his own personality, memories, experiences, and purpose. His creation was tied to Amado’s plan to oppose Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, while his later abilities make him increasingly important to Boruto and the future of the shinobi world.
Why Kashin Koji Was Created From Jiraiya
Amado created Kashin Koji using Jiraiya as his genetic template. The decision was not simply about bringing back a popular character. Isshiki eventually explains that Koji was designed to follow a path resembling Jiraiya’s, particularly the role of confronting an overwhelmingly powerful enemy. His original purpose was to act as a hidden weapon against Isshiki while operating inside Kara.
Koji inherited several abilities associated with Jiraiya, including the Rasengan, toad summoning, Fire Release techniques, and Sage Mode. His resemblance extends beyond his fighting style, as his white hair, facial markings, and general appearance deliberately evoke the legendary ninja. However, Koji remains a separate individual rather than a reincarnation of Jiraiya.
His importance grows dramatically in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. After receiving cells connected to Shibai Ōtsutsuki, Koji manifests the Shinjutsu known as Prescience. This ability allows him to observe possible futures and understand how different choices can create branching outcomes. He can even use this knowledge to help others learn techniques that they would otherwise develop much later.
This becomes particularly important for Boruto. Koji uses his knowledge of possible futures to guide Boruto toward techniques and decisions that can improve his chances against future threats. His assistance helps Boruto develop his version of the Flying Raijin, with the official database noting that Prescience significantly shortened the time needed for Boruto to master it.
Kashin Koji therefore represents both Jiraiya’s legacy and something entirely new. He carries Jiraiya’s genetic abilities without being Jiraiya himself, while Prescience gives him a role that could fundamentally change Boruto’s future.
