Kochikame is making a major comeback as Shueisha celebrates the manga’s 50th anniversary with a new one-shot chapter. The special story was published in Weekly Shonen Jump’s 36th issue, marking another return for Osamu Akimoto’s long-running comedy series.

The anniversary celebration will also include a new anime project titled Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo (New Kochikame), featuring a new voice cast that will be revealed during a Tokyo event on September 5.

Alongside the manga and anime revival, the franchise is also receiving a new video game from Shueisha Games and Kairosoft. Titled Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat, the game will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam.

The Steam version will support Japanese, English, and Traditional Chinese text.

Originally launched in 1976, Kochikame ended its historic 40-year run in September 2016. The series remains one of Japan’s best-selling manga, with around 150 million copies in circulation as of 2016.

The manga has expanded into multiple adaptations, including anime series, films, live-action projects, and stage plays. Its television anime adaptation aired for more than 300 episodes between 1996 and 2004.
