The upcoming live-action adaptation of Blue Lock has revealed a new promotional video, giving fans a closer look at the franchise’s iconic entrance exam before the film arrives in Japanese theaters on August 7. Released through the movie’s official YouTube channel, the latest footage introduces the intense competition awaiting aspiring strikers inside the Blue Lock program and debuts Fukase’s insert song, “twilight,” which plays during the sequence.
The preview highlights protagonist Yoichi Isagi as he joins hundreds of young forwards hoping to become Japan’s ultimate striker. The scene recreates one of the manga’s defining early moments, emphasizing the psychological and physical challenges that have made the series a global hit.
New footage spotlights Blue Lock’s high-stakes beginning
The live-action film stars Fumiya Takahashi as Yoichi Isagi, alongside Kaito Sakurai as Meguru Bachira and Kyōhei Takahashi as Hyoma Chigiri. The cast also includes Masataka Kubota as Blue Lock mastermind Jinpachi Ego, whose unconventional training program drives the story.
The newly released trailer focuses on the entrance examination that determines which players will advance into the controversial Blue Lock project. Fans of the manga will recognize several familiar faces, including Rensuke Kunigami, Gin Gagamaru, Seishiro Nagi, Reo Mikage, and Shōei Barō, all portrayed by a large ensemble cast.
The film is directed by Yūsuke Taki, with Tetsuo Kamata handling the screenplay. Production is led by CREDEUS, the studio behind the live-action Golden Kamuy film, while TOHO will distribute the movie in Japan.
Created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yūsuke Nomura, Blue Lock debuted in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2018 and has grown into one of Kodansha’s biggest modern sports manga. The series won the Best Shōnen Manga award at the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2021 and has sold millions of copies worldwide.
The franchise has expanded rapidly through multiple adaptations. The original anime premiered in 2022, followed by the BLUE LOCK vs. U-20 JAPAN second season in 2024. A third anime season adapting the New Hero Wars arc has already been announced, while the BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- anime film introduced fans to Seishiro Nagi’s backstory.
