The long-awaited live-action Naruto movie has reached a major milestone, as the franchise officially announced a global casting call for its three central characters: Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno.

Produced by Lionsgate, the Hollywood adaptation is now searching worldwide for actors to bring Team 7 to life, signaling that the project is moving into its next phase of production. According to the official Naruto website, casting for additional characters will be announced at a later date.

Worldwide auditions begin for Team 7

The official announcement confirms that the production is currently focused on casting the story’s three main protagonists. While no details have been shared regarding age requirements or filming schedules, the worldwide search reflects the studio’s intention to find the right actors for one of anime and manga’s most recognizable franchises.

The film is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton is also producing through Hisako, alongside Jeyun Munford, with Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Emmy Yu, and Jeremy Latcham serving as producers.

Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto welcomed the latest update with an emotional message celebrating the project’s progress.

“Right now, miracles are happening to me, one after another. My work, Naruto, is truly, truly becoming a Hollywood movie!”

Kishimoto said.

He also praised director Destin Daniel Cretton, adding,

“I am eagerly looking forward to the miraculous encounters that will bring us extraordinary and passionate actors! I cannot wait to meet my characters in the film!”

Years of development lead to casting milestone

Lionsgate first secured the rights to adapt Naruto into a live-action film in 2015, with the project evolving through several creative stages over the years. Variety previously reported that Tasha Huo, known for Red Sonja and Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, is writing the screenplay.

With the global casting process now officially underway, the adaptation has taken one of its biggest steps yet toward becoming a reality. Fans can also expect casting announcements for additional characters as development continues.
