The One Piece anime is officially heading into another scheduled break, with new episodes confirmed to return in 2027. The announcement follows the conclusion of the anime’s 2026 broadcast run and comes as Toei Animation continues its new production strategy for the long-running series.
The anime’s final episode for 2026 aired on Fuji TV on September 27. One Piece will temporarily vacate its regular Sunday 11:15 p.m. timeslot, which will instead be occupied by Dragon Ball Super: Beerus beginning October 11.
One Piece Elbaph Arc Will Continue in 2027
The break comes while One Piece is adapting the highly anticipated Elbaph Arc, which began airing in Japan on April 5, 2026. The storyline follows the Straw Hat Pirates as they finally explore the legendary land of the giants, making it one of the most significant stages of the Final Saga.
The Elbaph Arc is also available internationally through Crunchyroll, allowing overseas viewers to follow the anime alongside its Japanese broadcast.
The temporary hiatus is part of a broader change to One Piece’s production schedule. In October 2025, Toei Animation and anime producer Ryūta Koike announced that the series would reduce its yearly output to a maximum of 26 episodes starting in 2026.
Toei explained that the revised schedule would allow the anime to better match the manga’s storytelling, with episodes designed to provide stronger pacing and incorporate more manga material.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Takes Over the Sunday Slot
While One Piece is away, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will occupy its regular Fuji TV timeslot from October 11.
According to Anime News Network, the new series is described as an enhanced version of the original Dragon Ball Super anime. The project features reconstructed scenes, newly rendered footage, additional cuts, updated sound effects and newly recorded dialogue.
The series will revisit the events surrounding Goku’s confrontation with Beerus, the God of Destruction, following the conclusion of the battle with Majin Buu.
For One Piece fans, however, the bigger development is what comes next. The anime’s return in 2027 means the Elbaph storyline will continue under Toei’s newer production approach, which is intended to improve pacing while giving the animation team more time to deliver individual episodes.
The change represents a significant departure from the franchise’s historical weekly schedule. Since its 1999 debut, One Piece has generally aired throughout the year, making the newer planned breaks particularly notable.
