A new indie horror project is beginning to draw attention, as Sleepover has been officially dropped with its first trailer and Steam listing. Developed by ChimpWampus and published by Neverland Entertainment, the visual novel is scheduled for a Q3 2027 release on PC.
Blending post-apocalyptic storytelling with cosmic horror elements, Sleepover offers a more intimate and psychological take on the genre. Instead of focusing on large-scale destruction, the game narrows its scope to a quiet, deeply emotional story about the final moments of humanity.
A Quiet Apocalypse With Only Two Survivors
Sleepover begins with a chilling premise. The entire population of Earth has vanished without explanation, leaving behind a single survivor named Yuna. Alone and overwhelmed, she struggles to find any meaning in a world that suddenly feels empty and distant.
Her isolation is broken when a mysterious girl named Fermi appears at her door. From that point on, the story unfolds over what may be the final night for both of them. With no future left to look toward, the two characters attempt to create meaningful memories before everything ends.
One of the game’s defining lines captures this emotional core:
“It’s the last night for both of you… you should at least try to make it a happy one.”
This balance between despair and fleeting comfort becomes central to the narrative.
Exploration and Storytelling Inside a Single Apartment
Rather than relying on traditional gameplay mechanics, Sleepover focuses on exploration and environmental storytelling. Players can freely move through Yuna’s apartment, interacting with objects that reveal fragments of her past life.
Each item offers insight into her relationships, her regrets, and her deteriorating mental state. As more details are uncovered, the story gradually becomes more unsettling, with hints that something far more disturbing may be lurking beneath the surface.
The game also introduces subtle warnings, encouraging players to think carefully about where they go and what they interact with. This approach builds tension without relying on conventional horror techniques, making the experience more psychological than surprising.
A Cosmic Horror Story About Facing the Unknown
While the setting is grounded in a familiar environment, Sleepover leans heavily into cosmic horror themes. The disappearance of humanity remains unexplained, creating a sense of unease that grows stronger as the story progresses.
The narrative challenges players to confront ideas that are difficult to process. What happens when you realize you have no control over your fate. How do you respond when the world no longer makes sense. These questions are woven into both the gameplay and the story.
At the same time, the game emphasizes the importance of connection. Even in a world that has lost all meaning, the presence of another person becomes a source of comfort. This contrast between fear and companionship gives the story its emotional depth.
A Passion-Driven Project From a Global Team
Sleepover is being developed by ChimpWampus, a small but dedicated team focused on delivering a personal and meaningful horror experience. The project was first conceived in 2023 by game director Skyler, who leads the narrative vision.
The development team includes contributors from across the world, with roles spanning programming, 3D modeling, concept art, writing, and motion design. This collaborative approach reflects the studio’s emphasis on creative freedom and shared storytelling.
