The Quintessential Quintuplets franchise has officially announced two new anime projects during a special fan event held at Toyota Arena Tokyo on May 2, 2026, thrilling fans who have followed the beloved romantic comedy since its 2019 debut. The announcement, made by distributor Pony Canyon alongside the main voice cast, confirms an anime adaptation of the sequel light novel The Quintessential Quintuplets: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and a new special episode adapting previously unanimated chapters from Negi Haruba’s original manga.

The dual announcement arrives as the franchise celebrates over 20 million copies in cumulative circulation, demonstrating the enduring popularity of Futaro Uesugi’s story with the five Nakano quintuplet sisters. A new anime project visual and teaser trailer accompanied the reveal, showcasing the familiar character designs that have defined the series across two television seasons, a theatrical film, and two previous special episodes.

While production staff and release dates remain unconfirmed at this time, the projects represent the franchise’s continued expansion following the conclusion of Haruba’s manga in 2020 and promise to deliver content that longtime fans have been requesting since the original series ended.

Two Distinct Projects Expanding the Quintuplets Universe

The first announced project adapts The Quintessential Quintuplets: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, a complete sequel novel written by Hajime Asano under full supervision of original creator Negi Haruba. This canonical continuation depicts events following the original manga’s conclusion, exploring the Nakano sisters’ daily lives during their final year of high school across all four seasons. The novel represents an official extension of the story rather than a spinoff or alternate timeline, giving fans the opportunity to spend more time with characters whose journey technically concluded with the manga’s finale.

A manga adaptation of the sequel novel is also currently in development, suggesting a multimedia approach to expanding this new storyline across multiple formats. This strategy mirrors the franchise’s original rollout, where the manga spawned anime, film, and game adaptations that introduced the property to audiences through different entry points.

The second project takes a different approach by adapting previously unanimated chapters from Haruba’s original manga. Throughout its two television seasons and theatrical film, certain manga chapters were skipped or condensed for pacing reasons, leaving devoted readers without animated versions of specific scenes and storylines they cherished. This new special aims to fill those gaps, providing animated interpretations of content that fans have specifically requested since the earlier adaptations aired.

This approach follows the precedent set by The Quintessential Quintuplets∽ and The Quintessential Quintuplets*, two previous special episodes that received theatrical releases before television broadcasts. The first special, directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto at studio SHAFT, premiered in theaters on July 14, 2023, while the second special, directed by Masato Jinbo at Bibury Animation Studio, was released theatrically on September 20, 2024. The second special notably covered events set after the wedding and Futaro’s honeymoon, providing closure to the romantic narrative while leaving room for additional stories.

The Special Event and Fan Celebration

The announcement took place during “The Quintessential Quintuplets SPECIAL EVENT 2026 in TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO,” which featured the complete main voice cast including Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Futaro Uesugi, Kana Hanazawa as Ichika Nakano, Ayana Taketatsu as Nino Nakano, Miku Ito as Miku Nakano, Ayane Sakura as Yotsuba Nakano, and Inori Minase as Itsuki Nakano. The event combined talk segments, variety games, and a newly written live reading based on a picture book created and supervised by Negi Haruba, written by Masumi Asano, and illustrated by Monaka.

The “Nakano Fes” live music segment performed ten songs spanning the franchise’s history, including the TV special anime opening theme “Quintuplets’ smiles,” the game theme song “To tomorrow,” and Futaro’s character song “Iroasenai Kimochi.” These performances demonstrated the franchise’s expansion beyond anime into music and gaming, with the mobile game Gotoubun no Princess: Fantasy, the Abyss, and the Magic Academy contributing to the property’s ongoing multimedia presence.
