HIDIVE is expanding its Summer 2026 anime lineup with a unique historical entry, as The World Is Dancing prepares to premiere on June 29 for audiences in the United States and Canada. The announcement was made by CyberAgent, Inc. through its official press release, alongside new details about the series’ music, cast, and visuals.

Set in 14th-century Japan, the anime follows a young boy named Oniyasha, who would later become the legendary Noh theater figure Zeami. The story traces his early life as he begins to understand the meaning of dance and artistic expression in a time shaped by tradition and cultural evolution.

A rare anime focused on traditional Japanese performance

While most seasonal anime tend to focus on action, fantasy, or romance, The World Is Dancing stands out by exploring the origins of Noh theater. This traditional Japanese art form is known for its stylized performances, symbolic storytelling, and use of masks, making it a rarely depicted subject in modern anime.

By centering its narrative on Oniyasha’s transformation into Zeami, the series blends historical storytelling with a coming-of-age journey. This approach gives the anime a distinct identity, especially among Summer 2026 releases that largely follow mainstream genre trends.

The series features a strong voice cast, including Yumiri Hanamori, Inori Minase, and Miyuki Sawashiro. Known for their versatility, the trio is expected to bring emotional depth to a story that relies heavily on character development and performance.

Animation production is handled by Studio Cypic, with CyberAgent leading the project. Early preview cuts suggest a strong emphasis on atmosphere, with detailed period visuals and carefully designed performance sequences inspired by traditional theater.

Alongside the premiere announcement, the anime’s ending theme “Unnamed Flower” was revealed, performed by the band hockrockb. The track is expected to complement the series’ reflective tone and artistic themes.

Fans were also given a first look at Episode 1 preview cuts and additional character visuals via the official website. These previews highlight expressive animation and a grounded visual style that aligns with the historical setting.
