Toei Animation has officially celebrated its 70th anniversary with a special video looking back at the studio’s seven-decade history. The milestone was reached on July 31, 2026, marking 70 years since the company began operating under the Toei Animation name.
The anniversary celebration also includes a dedicated website featuring a detailed timeline of the studio’s productions and a message from President Katsuhiro Takagi. In his statement, Takagi thanked the employees and fans who helped shape Toei Animation’s legacy while describing the anniversary as a stepping stone toward the company’s 100th anniversary.
Toei Animation’s history stretches back to its first feature-length animated production, The White Snake, released in 1958. The studio followed it with Magic Boy in 1959 before producing its first television anime, Ōkami Shōnen Ken, in 1963.
Over the decades, Toei Animation has become associated with some of the industry’s most recognizable franchises, including Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Saint Seiya, Precure, GeGeGe no Kitarō and Slam Dunk.
The studio’s anniversary video revisits these productions across different decades, highlighting how its work has evolved alongside the anime industry. Toei Animation is continuing that legacy in 2026 with Star Detective Precure!, its latest television production.
