Toppo quickly established himself as one of the most formidable warriors in Dragon Ball Super when he confronted Goku before the Tournament of Power. As the leader of the Pride Troopers, Toppo represented Universe 11’s ideals of justice and was already regarded as one of its strongest fighters, second only to Jiren. His first major clash with Goku took place during the Zen Exhibition Match, where their battle demonstrated that Toppo could compete with Goku even after the Saiyan reached powerful transformations.
Their confrontation also gave Goku an early warning about the strength waiting for him in the Tournament of Power. Toppo later became one of Universe 11’s central competitors, working alongside Jiren and Dyspo while repeatedly crossing paths with Universe 7. His role became even more important when his connection to the position of God of Destruction was revealed.
How Toppo Became One of Universe 11’s Biggest Tournament Threats
Toppo’s first fight with Goku was essentially a preview of the Tournament of Power. Goku initially attacked Toppo as a Super Saiyan 3, but Toppo effortlessly handled his attacks and responded with overwhelming physical strength. Goku eventually transformed into Super Saiyan God, forcing Toppo to take the battle more seriously and resulting in a clash that reached god-level power.
The encounter also showed why Toppo and Jiren were considered Universe 11’s most dangerous warriors. During the Tournament of Power, Toppo continued to demonstrate his strength by working with Dyspo to pressure Goku and later battling Vegeta. His durability and fighting ability allowed him to remain a major obstacle even as Universe 7’s warriors became stronger.
Toppo’s importance went beyond his fighting ability, however. He was being trained as a potential successor to Belmod, Universe 11’s God of Destruction, giving him a connection to the divine hierarchy that separated him from ordinary Pride Troopers. This possibility eventually became important when Toppo embraced the destructive power associated with the position during his battle against Vegeta.
Although Toppo ultimately lost during the Tournament of Power, his defeat required Vegeta to push beyond his previous limits. Toppo’s journey from justice-focused Pride Trooper leader to God of Destruction candidate made him one of the tournament’s most significant supporting fighters. His battles with Goku and Vegeta also helped establish the enormous power of Universe 11 before the final confrontation with Jiren.
