Wasabi Izuno and Namida Suzumeno have one of the more relatable friendships in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. As members of Team 15, the two young kunoichi frequently clash because of their different personalities and approaches to missions. Wasabi is confident and quick to act, while Namida is more emotional and can become overwhelmed under pressure. Their rivalry is therefore less about genuine hostility and more about two teammates learning how to communicate. Their relationship becomes especially important during the events of Episode 49, appropriately titled “Wasabi and Namida,” when a simple animal capture mission exposes the weaknesses in their teamwork.
The episode shows that their arguments do not mean the two characters dislike each other. Instead, their disagreements reveal how much they still have to learn as young shinobi. When Namida finds herself in real danger, Wasabi immediately puts their argument aside and uses her abilities to help save her teammate. That moment demonstrates why their rivalry ultimately strengthens their friendship.
How Wasabi and Namida Become Better Teammates
Wasabi and Namida’s rivalry becomes clear when Team 15 receives a mission to capture animals that have escaped from a zoo. During the mission, the two disagree about how they should approach the task. Wasabi prefers acting quickly and independently, while Namida suggests working together, but their communication breaks down and Namida eventually leaves the group upset.
The conflict changes when Namida encounters a dangerous wolf. After hearing her scream, Wasabi joins Sumire in helping her, and the situation forces the two rivals to cooperate. Wasabi draws the animal’s attention while Namida uses her powerful sonic jutsu, allowing them to combine their abilities and defeat the threat. Their successful teamwork helps them put their argument behind them.
Their friendship develops further as Team 15 faces more difficult missions. Wasabi and Namida repeatedly demonstrate that they can depend on one another when the situation becomes serious. Their contrasting personalities actually make them effective partners because Wasabi provides determination and initiative, while Namida possesses powerful abilities that become especially useful when properly controlled.
Later, the rivalry becomes a more deliberate part of Team 15’s training. After Tsubaki Kurogane joins the team, she encourages Wasabi and Namida to compete with one another to improve their performance. However, the competition becomes counterproductive when they focus too much on winning and lose sight of their actual mission objective.
The important lesson is that Wasabi and Namida are not true enemies. Their rivalry works because both characters care about becoming stronger and proving themselves as shinobi, while their friendship reminds them that individual strength is not enough. Boruto uses their relationship to show how communication, trust, and teamwork can turn contrasting personalities into a stronger team.
