Bulla, also known as Bra, is the second child of Vegeta and Bulma in the Dragon Ball universe and the younger sister of Trunks. Although she was already part of the established family by the end of Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super gives her birth a much more significant role in Vegeta’s character development. During the preparations for the Tournament of Power, Bulma is pregnant with Bulla, and Vegeta refuses to leave Earth until his daughter is born.
He is determined to be present for the birth, even though Universe 7 desperately needs him for the tournament. This becomes especially important because Vegeta’s decision shows how far he has moved from the ruthless Saiyan prince he once was. Bulla’s arrival ultimately gives Vegeta another deeply personal reason to fight and protect his family.
How Bulla Became Part of Vegeta and Bulma’s Family
Bulla is Vegeta and Bulma’s daughter, making her a half-Saiyan and half-Earthling. She is also Trunks’ younger sister, while her maternal grandparents are Dr. Brief and Mrs. Brief. The official Dragon Ball character profile describes Bulla as the second child of Bulma and Vegeta and notes her strong physical resemblance to her mother.
Bulla’s birth takes place during the early stages of the Universe Survival Saga. Vegeta initially refuses to join Universe 7’s Tournament of Power team because Bulma has not yet given birth, insisting that he will remain beside her. The situation becomes a problem because Goku needs Vegeta for the tournament, but Vegeta refuses to compromise on being present for his daughter’s arrival.
Whis eventually solves the problem using his extraordinary abilities, accelerating Bulla’s birth so that Vegeta can join the tournament. After Bulla is born, Vegeta immediately develops a strong emotional attachment to her, reinforcing the softer family-oriented side of his character. The episode uses her birth to demonstrate that Vegeta’s priorities have changed significantly since his introduction as a villain.
The name also has an interesting connection to her family. Vegeta had considered giving his daughter the Saiyan-inspired name Eschalot, but Bulma ultimately named her Bulla, or Bra depending on the translation. Bulla later appears with her family near the end of the original Dragon Ball manga, where she is shown as part of the younger generation alongside Trunks and the other characters.
