A new anime film inspired by a legendary manga is officially on the way, as THE RIBBON HERO prepares for its global debut on Netflix on August 8, 2026. Alongside the release date announcement, the first teaser trailer and main key visual have been dropped, offering a closer look at the film’s tone, characters, and story direction.
The project draws inspiration from Princess Knight by Osamu Tezuka, reimagining its themes for a modern audience. With a darker narrative and action-focused approach, the film aims to introduce a new version of Sapphire while preserving the emotional core of the original concept.
Teaser Trailer Sets Up a High-Stakes Fantasy Story
The newly released teaser opens with a kingdom in ruins, immediately establishing a bleak atmosphere shaped by destruction and loss. Sapphire is shown injured and on the brink of collapse, hinting at the devastating impact of a mysterious calamity known as Nergal.
As the trailer progresses, the tone shifts from despair to determination. A mysterious figure appears, and Sapphire gains the ability to transform, surrounded by flowing ribbons that symbolize her new power. The visuals quickly transition into intense battle scenes, including a clash with a monstrous enemy and a brief glimpse of a sinister figure watching from the shadows.
The preview suggests a story driven by survival, revenge, and hope, positioning Sapphire as a hero forced to rise in the face of overwhelming odds.
A Reimagined Hero With a Strong Emotional Core
In this adaptation, Sapphire is no longer simply a royal figure but a survivor of a fallen kingdom. After losing her homeland, Silverland, she wanders until she finds refuge in a new land. However, peace proves temporary as the same force that destroyed her home returns.
The character’s motivation is rooted in her refusal to experience loss again. Her resolve is captured in her determination to protect others, transforming her from a victim of tragedy into a proactive hero.
This version of the story emphasizes emotional resilience alongside action, giving the narrative a stronger dramatic foundation while maintaining its fantasy elements.

The film introduces Saya from Lalande as the voice of Sapphire, marking her first leading role in a feature-length animated project. Speaking about the role, she said, “Now that I’m over 30, I’ve never had a job where I struggled and enjoyed the challenge this much. I’d be so happy if you could watch it!”
