A major piece of anime history is getting a premium revival, as multiple soundtracks from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence are officially being released on vinyl. The announcement confirms that five albums from Stand Alone Complex, along with the Innocence original soundtrack, will roll out in two phases across July and August 2026.
The timing of this release aligns with renewed attention on the franchise, with a new Ghost in the Shell anime installment scheduled to premiere this July. For longtime fans and collectors, the vinyl editions offer a chance to revisit one of anime’s most influential soundscapes in a format that emphasizes depth and detail.
A Defining Soundtrack Returns in Analog Form
When Stand Alone Complex first aired in 2002, it quickly established itself as a standout entry in the cyberpunk genre. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G, the series gained a strong following both in Japan and internationally.
A major factor behind its success was the music by Yoko Kanno. Her compositions blended electronic beats with jazz, rock, and folk influences, creating a sound that felt as complex and layered as the show’s themes. Tracks often featured multilingual vocals, combining elements from different cultures to match the series’ futuristic setting.
The soundtrack was originally released as five separate CD albums, each capturing a different aspect of the show’s tone. These albums are now being reissued on vinyl, giving fans a new way to experience the music.

Release Dates and Album Lineup
The vinyl collection will be released in two waves. The first arrives on July 22, 2026, featuring several of the core Stand Alone Complex albums. The second wave follows on August 26, 2026, completing the lineup and adding the Innocence soundtrack.
Key releases include O.S.T+, a two-LP set that features some of the most recognizable tracks from the series, including “Inner Universe” and “Rise.” Additional albums such as O.S.T.2, Be Human, O.S.T.3, and Solid State Society expand the collection, covering the full range of music produced for the series.
Each release is positioned as a collector’s item, with pricing reflecting the premium nature of vinyl editions.
Innocence Brings a Different Musical Identity
Alongside the Stand Alone Complex albums, the soundtrack for Innocence offers a contrasting style. Composed by Kenji Kawai, the score leans more toward orchestral and traditional influences, creating a darker and more atmospheric tone.
Directed by Mamoru Oshii, the 2004 film explored deeper philosophical themes and was recognized internationally, including a selection for the Cannes Film Festival. The music played a key role in shaping its identity, with tracks like “Kugutsu Uta” standing out for their choral intensity.
The vinyl release will include the full 12-track soundtrack, offering a complete version of the film’s score in analog format.
Weekly Digital Releases Build Anticipation
To support the vinyl rollout, a selection of 14 tracks from across the albums will be released weekly on FlyingDog’s official YouTube channel. The first track is already available, giving fans an early preview of the music ahead of the physical launch.
This approach allows both new listeners and longtime fans to reconnect with the franchise’s sound while building anticipation for the vinyl editions. It also highlights how central music has been to the identity of Ghost in the Shell over the years.
