Detective Conan is marking its 30th anime anniversary with a major two-hour television special, and new details have now been revealed. Titled Detective Conan: 30-gō Satsujin Jiken, the special will air on September 25 at 9 p.m. JST during NTV’s Friday Roadshow programming block.
The newly released promotional video and main visual bring together a large group of characters for what the official material describes as one of the franchise’s biggest ensemble mysteries. The special also marks the first new two-hour Detective Conan TV special in 10 years.
Longtime Detective Conan theme song performer Mai Kuraki will provide the special’s opening theme, “Hallelujah.” The song will also be released digitally on September 25, giving fans access to the new track alongside the television premiere.
The story begins after a new 10,000-yen banknote featuring Tokyo Tower enters circulation. Conan and his friends visit the National Printing Bureau’s Nagano facility, while police investigators discover a counterfeit version of the new currency at a murder scene.
As the fake bills begin creating a national crisis, Conan and Heiji Hattori travel to Osaka to investigate where the counterfeit money was produced. The official synopsis promises an unusually large gathering of detectives, police officers and other major characters as they attempt to uncover the truth.
The special is part of the broader 30th-anniversary celebration for the anime, which began airing in January 1996. TMS Entertainment is handling animation production, with Shogakukan and Yomiuri TV among the production partners.
