Hoshi in the Girls’ Garden has claimed the top spot on Oricon’s September 2026 manga sales ranking in Japan. The fifth volume of Yama Wayama’s manga sold an estimated 182,399 copies during the tracking period, outperforming new releases from popular series including Kagurabachi and Dandadan.

According to Japan Anime News powered by Oricon News, the monthly ranking was announced on October 9, 2026, and covers estimated print sales at Japanese retail outlets between August 31 and September 27. The winning volume was released in Japan on September 8 by Shodensha.

The result places Wayama’s series ahead of several established manga franchises, highlighting the continued demand for its latest volume. The series was also nominated for the 18th Manga Taisho Awards and the 49th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2025.

KAGURABACHI AND DANDADAN COMPLETE SEPTEMBER’S TOP THREE

Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi Volume 12 secured second place with 124,297 copies sold. Published by Shueisha, the volume arrived in Japan on September 4. International readers can access the series digitally through VIZ Media and MANGA Plus, while VIZ also publishes the manga in print. Its anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere in April 2027.

The fourth-place position went to The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Volume 24, which sold 94,463 copies. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Volume 50 followed with 93,238 copies, while In the Clear Moonlit Dusk Volume 11 placed sixth with 88,833.

Rounding out the top 10 were The JOJOLands Volume 9 at seventh with 87,786 copies, Kingdom Volume 80 at eighth with 80,661, WIND BREAKER Volume 27 at ninth with 73,538, and Your Castle’s Little Helper Volume 5 at tenth with 61,618.

The cumulative sales column also highlighted the continued performance of older releases. Kingdom Volume 80 reached 446,040 copies in total sales, while Chiikawa Volume 8 accumulated 353,992 copies despite ranking 12th for September. These figures show why monthly rankings and cumulative totals can tell different stories about a manga volume’s performance.

The full results were compiled by Oricon, which has tracked Japan’s entertainment sales market for decades. The September chart reflects estimated physical manga sales rather than digital purchases or worldwide readership.
