SiM is stepping back into the anime spotlight with “FREEZE ME UP,” the official opening theme for the upcoming series BLACK TORCH. The track was dropped through the anime’s latest trailer, giving fans a first taste of what could be another major crossover hit following the band’s global breakout success with “The Rumbling.”
The reveal positions SiM at the center of another high-profile anime project, with the band once again delivering a high-energy sound tailored for action-heavy storytelling.
A Follow-Up to a Global Anime Hit
SiM’s return to anime comes with significant expectations. Their previous track, “The Rumbling,” became a global phenomenon as the opening theme for Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, topping Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart and reaching millions of listeners worldwide.
With that level of success, “FREEZE ME UP” arrives as more than just another anime opening. It represents the band’s next major step in cementing its global identity within both the rock and anime industries.
The early preview in the BLACK TORCH trailer suggests a similarly aggressive and emotionally charged sound, aligning closely with the series’ darker tone.
Frontman MAH offered insight into how the band approached the new track, emphasizing the influence of the original manga’s world-building.
“Manga is a universe. There are as many galaxies as there are readers,” he said. “This song is my attempt to express, through sound and words, the BLACK TORCH galaxy that expanded inside my own mind.”
This perspective highlights how the band aimed to interpret the story on a personal level rather than simply creating a standard opening theme. The result is a track designed to capture the scale and intensity of the narrative.
The anime, based on the manga by Tsuyoshi Takaki, follows Jiro Azuma, a teenager trained in the ways of the shinobi who can communicate with animals. His life changes after meeting Rago, a mysterious black cat who is secretly a powerful mononoke.
As supernatural threats emerge, Jiro is pulled into a larger conflict involving hidden organizations and dangerous forces seeking control over Rago’s abilities. The story blends traditional ninja elements with supernatural action, creating a fast-paced and high-stakes narrative.
This darker and more intense setting makes it a natural fit for SiM’s heavy, genre-blending sound.
“FREEZE ME UP” will also appear on SiM’s upcoming album HOOMAN AFTER ALL, scheduled for release on September 2. The album marks the band’s first full-length project in three years and is expected to build on their recent global success.
